The Recall Newsom campaign announced that it has crossed the threshold of signatures needed to put the governor on a special election ballot, though the campaign plans to continue gathering signatures in case some are thrown out in the certification process. They still have almost an entire month to continue the signature gathering process.
Leftist pollsters have already rushed in to downplay the threat to Governor Newsom, however, history shows us that the last time a recall took place in California, the liberals didn’t fare well.
So, what exactly does this mean for California families?
California already has some of the nation’s most liberal laws on abortion. It has shamelessly promoted the LGBT agenda in every facet of its policies for decades now. It continues to rank among the worst fiscally managed states in America. Yet, the leadership ranks have remained largely untouched.
A change at the highest executive level, even with a replacement that doesn’t necessarily subscribe wholeheartedly to our faith, family, freedom platform, gives our issues time and space to make progress. After all, our long-term goal is to change hearts and minds – and that task gets a lot easier when the governor of our state is at least willing to meet with California Family Council and hear our concerns.
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Our worldview – the things we believe about our society – is deserving of our strongest effort and defenses, even when the odds don’t necessarily appear to be in our favor, as has been the case for many years in California. But I would remind you that there weren’t a lot of people betting on David to beat Goliath either; yet, his tactful skills and practiced approaches earned him a win, and history remembered it.
It’s not a secret that Governor Newsom has always been extremely anti-family, anti-business, and anti-religious liberty – but the COVID-19 pandemic exposed those biases for all to see. CFC, as the central ally for California’s families advocating in Sacramento, is enthusiastic about the idea of a California governor who doesn’t oppose so many of the things that made America an exceptional nation. But we’ll continue to fight for those things regardless of what happens in this recall campaign.
We continue to pray for Governor Newsom and his staff – that they would ask for God’s wisdom and be receptive to changing courses on a number of policies that contradict God’s design for humanity. And we pray for all those who are vying to replace Governor Newsom – that they would seek the same wisdom and receive conviction to govern under it, should they be chosen to lead our state.
We’ll keep you updated as the recall process continues and remind you to participate in the process however you feel led to do so. Our actions today will determine what sort of California we leave to our children and grandchildren.
