Utah Lt. Governor: Abortion Will Go Down as One of the Greatest Travesties in the History of Humankind

In a recent speech Utah Lt. Governor Spencer Cox declared that abortion will one day be condemned as “one of the greatest travesties in the history of humankind.”

Lt. Governor Cox was speaking alongside several other Republican candidates for governor at an Eagle Forum convention in Sandy, Utah.

“I truly believe that at some point in the future, future generations will look back on us today, and they will…look at abortion the way we look at slavery. It will go down in history as one of the greatest travesties in the history of humankind,” Lt. Governor Cox said, according to Newsweek

His comments were in response to a question concerning legislation that would recognize that human life begins at conception.

According to Newsweek, Utah pro-abortion Democrats were quick to attack Lt. Governor Cox for defending the rights of unborn babies. State Representative Sandra Hollins said she was offended. However, Lt. Governor Cox did not retract his statements.

“There are hundreds of thousands of abortions performed in our country every year,” he said. “I have always tried to be a voice for the most vulnerable in our society, those facing intergenerational poverty, refugees, the LGBTQ community, our multicultural communities—and yes, the unborn.

“I also included in my response that our party should do more to support single mothers, pregnant women and children facing poverty and trauma. I continue to be unapologetically pro-life,” Cox said.

Since 1973, when the United States Supreme Court handed down a decision on Roe v. Wade over 61,628,584 unborn children have been killed in abortions, according to the National Right to Life Committee

Just last fiscal year alone Planned Parenthood performed 345,672 abortions. By their own admission, Planned Parenthood Federation of America aborted 1,768 babies per day in their last fiscal year, more than any other abortion provider in the United States, and Planned Parenthood’s highest number since fiscal year 2011.

The United States is just one of seven countries in the world – including China and North Korea – that allow elective abortions after 20 weeks gestation.
