This is huge. The Trump administration announced new regulations yesterday on May 18, 2018 to partially defund Planned Parenthood and other similar abortion businesses from receiving federal taxpayer dollars. President Trump took steps to pull funding from Planned Parenthood International during his first week in office, by reinstating the Mexico City Policy.
On Friday, President Trump filed a new “Protect Life Rule,” with the Office of Management and Budget. The rule mandates that Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers would not be eligible to receive taxpayer dollars through Title X funds, unless they completely separate their abortion business from other taxpayer funded services. Planned Parenthood typically receives up to $50-$60 millions in funds through the roughly $286 million in Title X funds that go towards family planning for low income families.
If Planned Parenthood wishes to continue to be the recipient of these funds they will have to separate their abortion business and operate that aspect in a completely different facility. They would also have to have different staff and personnel.
The proposed rule also contains a “provision requiring clinics to adhere to state reporting laws when it comes to documenting the number of patients who arrive at their clinics and are victims of sexual assault, rape and incest,” according to the Washington Examiner.
The rule by itself does not necessarily defund Planned Parenthood, but it does strip federal taxpayer dollars away from the abortion giant if they refuse to separate abortion from the other services that they advertise so loudly. And after then Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards famously stated that Planned Parenthood would “absolutely not” give up performing abortions in order to continue receiving taxpayer dollars, it is unlikely that they will be willing to separate abortion from the remainder of what they do. According to Planned Parenthood’s latest report, last fiscal year Planned Parenthood performed approximately 900 abortions per day. That works out to be about 37 babies per hour. In the past 100 years, Planned Parenthood has aborted at least 6,803,782 unborn babies, as documented in the organization’s annual reports.
Since abortion is only 3% of the services that Planned Parenthood provides they should have no problem with this, right? Wrong! Since Planned Parenthood is the leading abortion provider in the United States and abortion is such a huge part of why Planned Parenthood exists, we can count on them almost certainly challenging the rule legally.
In December, the Department of Justice announced it was opening an investigation into Planned Parenthood over its sale of aborted baby parts.
