CA’s War on Children: Newsom Signs Bills That Silence Parents and Endanger Youth

The legislative season has come to an end, and the final results are in. What we’re witnessing in California is nothing short of a war on children. Governor Gavin Newsom doubled down on an agenda that prioritizes government control and gender ideology over parental rights, biological reality, and child safety.

Instead of protecting children, Newsom signed bills that isolate them from their parents, conceal critical medical information, and normalize irreversible procedures, while silencing public dissent. Our state is rejecting male and female biological distinctions, and minors are the testing ground.

Parents vs. Minors

As if parenting weren’t hard enough, these new laws, explained below, will drive a wedge between mothers, fathers, and their own children. Minors need their parents’ love and guidance, especially when they’re struggling with questions about identity or sexuality. Disagreement within a family is natural, and when real abuse occurs, Child Protective Services is there to step in. However, parents must still have the right to set rules and oversee the upbringing of their children, without government interference.

AB 1084, authored by Assemblyman Rick Zbur (D-Beverly Hills), violates this principle by authorizing minors to change their sex and name on their birth certificate without full parental consent. This law requires state officials to issue new identity documents within six weeks, erasing biological truth and replacing it with self-declared identity. If only one parent signs, the court notifies the other, but if a parent will not sign because they do not believe their child’s proposed gender identity aligns with their biological sex, the court will not consider their objection.

AB 1084 promotes the false idea that sex is fluid and treats parents as obstacles rather than protectors. It grants the state alarming power to redefine reality while sidelining mothers and fathers from their rightful role.

Safety of Minors and Women Threatened

SB 59, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), also puts the safety of minors and women at risk by sealing all court records related to sex and name changes, and criminalizes the public disclosure of a person’s true identity. The bill states a transgender identified person’s true sex is “intimate personal information entitled to protection under the right to privacy.” In practice, anyone who discloses the truth about a person’s biological identity can now face lawsuits and penalties. This will make it much harder to complain about a male being in a female bathroom or playing on a female sports team.

In practice, this bill criminalizes honesty, protecting ideology over reality. It ensures that when a child makes life-altering decisions, the public is kept in the dark.

CA Protects Its Ideology Over Minors

California is a sanctuary for transgender-identified individuals, meaning the state makes it easy, even as a minor, to come for cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and sex reassignment surgeries. In order to protect their sanctuary status, SB 497, authored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), was signed to shield California medical providers from lawsuits and investigations by other states, which have laws protecting minors from harmful transitioning drugs and surgeries.

SB 497 specifically prohibits California agencies, officials, and healthcare providers from sharing any information from the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES). CURES is a tool designed to track prescriptions and prevent abuse. Under this new law, information about drugs like testosterone and puberty blockers can no longer be shared with out-of-state authorities investigating transgender drugs and surgeries, also called “gender-affirming care.”

This change prevents law enforcement and medical boards from tracking dangerous or excessive prescriptions even when given to minors.

In a similar way, AB 82, authored by Assemblyman Christopher Ward, prohibits sharing any health information about gender-affirming care with authorities from other states, even when minors are involved.

Additionally, AB 82 removes testosterone and abortion drug mifepristone from the CURES monitoring system entirely. That means prescriptions for these powerful substances will no longer be tracked or recorded, and existing records will be erased by 2027.

These bills silence truth-telling, criminalize transparency, and ensure that children can be medically altered with no trial, no oversight, and no parental awareness.

AB 1487 Taxpayer-Funded Gender Indoctrination

With AB 1487, authored by Assemblywoman Dawn Addis (D-San Luis Obispo), citizens are forced to give 15 million in taxpayer dollars to the Two-Spirit, Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, and Intersex (2TGI) Wellness and Equity Fund that gives grants to non-profit organizations promoting the spread of LGBTQ ideology and providing medical, educational, and counseling services.

This existing fund already finances “wellness” activities like painting classes, hormone treatments, and sex reassignment surgeries for minors with little oversight. AB 1487 expands those services to include funding for resettlement programs for transgender immigrants, and youth diversion projects and workforce training for transgender-identifying individuals.

AB 1487 targets young and vulnerable populations, especially in rural and tribal communities, using taxpayer money to push ideological programs that confuse, not heal, children. Parents and doctors who believe in biological truth are cut out entirely.

A Victory for Minors

In the midst of the tidal wave of harmful bills, Governor Newsom vetoed SB 418, authored by Senator Caroline Menjivar (D-Van Nuys), a bill to force insurance companies to pay for gender transition procedures, for minors and adults alike, regardless of medical risk or moral concern.

Insurers would have been required to cover sterilizing hormones and irreversible surgeries for minors struggling with gender confusion, further promoting the dangerous idea that psychological distress should be treated with permanent medical procedures.

A State Against Its Own Children

These bills together advance a dangerous lie that people can change their biological sex.

Though research shows that those who undergo medical transition are far more likely to suffer from depression, regret, and suicidal thoughts (NIH study). Testimonies from detransitioners like Chloe Cole and from former LGBTQ-identified individuals in the Changed Movement all echo the same tragic truth: the promised healing and happiness LGBTQ ideology was supposed to bring only left scars—physical, emotional, and spiritual.

California’s majority party has made it its mission to erase the truth about gender and sexuality, replacing it with an ideology that leaves children confused, broken, and irreversibly harmed.

Childhood innocence is being sacrificed on the altar of ideology, and California’s leaders are applauding.

What will it take for Californians to say, “enough”?

For fathers to protect their daughters?

For pastors to activate their churches?

For doctors to honor real science?

For teachers to safeguard their students?

For coaches to defend their athletes?

It’s clear the California government won’t do it. So we must.

Ordinary people, choosing extraordinary courage, standing for truth in a culture that’s forgotten it.
