CA Lawmaker Says Abortion is Necessary Because of Inflation

Pro-abortion legislators are starting to justify their support for killing the unborn as a way to prevent poverty – the latest attempt comes from California Congresswoman Katie Porter.

During an interview with MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell, Porter argued that the Supreme Court’s likely decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will have “long-term economic consequences.”

“The fact that things like inflation can happen, and it can become more expensive to feed your kids and fuel your car is exactly why people need to be able to be in charge of how many mouths they’re going to have to feed.

So I think the fact that we’re seeing this jump in expenses, that we see people having to pay more in the grocery store, pay more at the pump, pay more for housing is a reason that people are saying, ‘I need to be able to make my own decisions about when and if to start a family,’” said Porter.

Porter’s argument is dangerously wrong for several reasons. First, the value of human life is not dependent on the state of the economy. While the cost of living is rising and families will have to make adjustments, killing a child is never the answer to economic hardship.

The left frequently advertises abortion as a way for women to resolve their burdensome financial situations. However, abortion does not solve the issue of poverty, it only perpetuates a cycle of poverty that is difficult for women to escape.

Further, Porter insinuates, as many on the left do, that abortion is the only means by which parents can control the number of children they have. Children do not magically appear, and there are several ways to plan the size of one’s family without ending an innocent life.

The left also fails to recognize that abortion harms these women emotionally and psychologically. Women were never meant to kill their children, and they are left with deep pain and regret for the rest of their lives after an abortion. A truly compassionate approach to helping expecting mothers who are struggling financially cannot include taking away their children. Instead, the left should focus on passing legislation that supports families who are struggling during difficult economic times.

Most importantly, a child’s worth is immeasurable. No amount of money saved is worth a human life. Children are not a burden, but a gift from God. To measure the value of human life in economic terms is a grave offense against God, whose image is reflected by every individual at every stage of life.

Struggling women need assistance and the truth about the value of their children. Instead, they are fed the lies that they aren’t capable of caring for a child or that their child is disposable.

In order to foster a culture of life, churches and pro-lifers need to offer help to mothers in need while speaking the truth in love to combat the lies of the left.

The truth is that every child from the moment of conception is a precious gift from God and there is no justification for intentionally killing an innocent life.
