Despite California’s Leadership, It’s A Good Time for Life

Last Wednesday marked the start of the annual 40 Days for Life campaign, with dozens of local prayer vigils happening throughout California! 40 Days for Life is an international program of organized prayer, fasting, community outreach, all centered around peaceful vigils outside of abortion facilities.

Thousands of churches and over one million volunteers participate in this effort each year. At the time of this writing, at least 19,322 babies have been saved. Abortion facilities have closed and hesitant, expecting parents have changed their minds on going through with an abortion after talking with the peaceful sidewalk counselors.

Just one month ago, California Family Council was excited to lead the first-ever California March for Life outside the Capitol in Sacramento. The annual national March for Life in Washington D.C. has been going on since 1974, so the fact that California finally held this historic rally in 2021 is monumental.

The Supreme Court of the United States announced this week that it will be hearing arguments for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the case that could effectively overturn Roe v. Wade, on December 1st.  This means that SCOTUS should announce their ruling on the Dobbs case by next June.

The Dobbs case originates out of a Mississippi law which bans abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy. Dozens of states have filed joint amicus briefs in support of the Mississippi law, arguing that the right to make laws on abortion should return to the states. If SCOTUS rules in favor of the Mississippi law, Roe v. Wade will effectively be undone, allowing states to set their own restrictions on abortion.

This is a huge case.

Imagine – if Roe is overturned, constituents will be able to vote for and hopefully elect pro-life candidates, who once in the legislature, can draft laws to significantly restrict, if not abolish, abortion.

If thousands of lives have already been saved in Texas because of its Heartbeat Law, imagine how many more will be saved if Roe is overturned!

And it is a very real possibility that Roe will be overturned. In fact, radical abortion supporters are already preparing to “confront” a post-Roe world and intend on coordinating in order to provide illegal abortions. This should not discourage anyone in their efforts to pass pro-life laws, however, because pro-life laws will save lives. What this does mean, however, is that we need to work even more intentionally outside of the legislative sphere to educate both men and women on the realities of abortion.

We need to raise awareness of fetal development. Many people sadly believe the unborn child is truly “a clump of cells” because of the radical left’s propaganda campaign. Live Action, a California-based organization, shines light by showing people how the unborn child develops in the womb and what actually happens during an abortion. Their testimony has caused countless individuals to change their mind on abortion.

Will you join us at CFC in standing for life in the womb?

Make a pledge to do something today for the unborn child, whether that be setting aside time for prayer, joining a 40 Days for Life vigil, choosing to speak up about this issue, or donating to California Family Council

It’s a good time for life.
