What You Can Do

    The goal in affecting public-policy debate is to present your opinion on a given issue persuasively. The most common ways to directly influence public policy include:

  Writing letters to elected officials
  Sending e-mail and faxes to elected officials
  Making phone calls
  Writing letters to the editor
  Visiting personally with officials
  Becoming involved in the actual election process by voting, working on campaigns, serving as a party precinct committeeman, or running for elective office;
  Attending public meetings, hearings, or issue forums;
  Joining and supporting pro-family groups and public-policy groups that share your viewpoints. These groups typically have registered lobbyists who deal with elected officials regularly. Your membership lends credibility to their efforts
